Tagaytay 5 dares PNP on Cavite labor killings

December 18, 2006 at 11:25 am | In Campaigns | Leave a Comment

We, the Tagaytay 5, condemn in the strongest possible terms the cold-blooded murder of Jesus “Buth” Servida, former president of the EMI-Independent labor union and the frustrated murder of Joel Sale and two other former active union officers of the EMI labor union last December 11, 2006 in front of the EMI factory in Imus, Cavite. We bring to the gates of the Cavite PNP and the Office of the Provincial Governor the responsibility for their failure to avert this latest outbreak of industrial violence that has plagued the EMI factory in the last two years.

As we mourn the untimely yet violent demise of Pangulong Buth, we dare the top leadership of the PNP, namely Director General Oscar Calderon and PRO-CALABARZON C/Supt Nicasio Radovan to get to the roots of the intermittent violence in EMI, identify and immediately ferret out the murderers and key operators of this dastardly act. Sacking and reassigning the inept and alibi-prone police officers of the Cavite PNP will not be enough to solve the spiraling industrial-labor violence in the province. Getting to the bottom and placing the cold-blooded murderers behind bars may help solve the problem.

Tagaytay 5 challenges Japan on Cavite labor killings

December 18, 2006 at 11:22 am | In Human Rights | Leave a Comment

We, the Tagaytay 5, steadfastly challenge the Government of Japan to be true to its human rights rhetoric, in the light of the latest outbreak in industrial violence in the EMI-Yazaki factory in Imus, Cavite where Jesus “Buth” Servida, the genuine workers’ union former president was shot treacherously by bonnet-wearing murderers last 11 December 2006. We dare Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Foreign Minister Taro Aso to be seriously concerned with this dastardly act of human rights violation, and make true their warning to the Arroyo government that “the Philippines must improve its human rights record as a condition to receiving more economic aid.”

EMI-Yazaki in Imus, Cavite is one of the biggest and oldest Japanese investments in Cavite and the entire CALABARZON region, and is a major supplier of automotive electrical harness to such Japanese industrial giants such as Toyota, Honda, and Mitsubishi. Unfortunately though, EMI-Yazaki is also the site for two murders and an attempted assassination of top union leaders of EMI in the past two years.

After 200 Days:
Tagaytay 5 Seek Immediate Release, File Motion to Quash

The prolonged legal battle for liberty of the Tagaytay 5 continue, even as public and official support calling for our immediate release and improvement of prison condition pours in by the day enter the 200th day of our abduction and illegal detention.

Today November 13, 2006, we, The Tagaytay 5, challenge the jurisdiction of the Tagaytay RTC over our persons, by filing a motion to quash the amended information for rebellion, which was belatedly and maliciously imputed against us by the PNP PRO CALABARZON, Cavite PNP and the Department of Justice (DOJ), while we also seek our liberty through another petition for certiorari, prohibition with issuance for a restraining order and/or preliminary injunction filed at the Supreme Court last November 3, and a pending motion for review at the DOJ filed last September 6, 2006.

T5 Demands Equal Protection Of Law, Goes To Supreme Court For Relief

October 8, 2006 at 5:53 am | In Campaigns | 2 Comments

Today, October 9, 2006, a new chapter unveils in the slow, tortuous saga of the Tagaytay 5, even as we continue to demand that the Arroyo government dutifully respect the constitutional guarantees on due process and equal protection of law.

Today we come again to the sala of the Honorable Judge Edwin G. Larida, Jr., of the Tagaytay Regional Trial Court Branch 18 for our court-imposed arraignment on the rebellion case maliciously imputed upon us by the Department of Justice (DOJ) Prosecutors Office, the PNP Police Regional Office 4-CALABARZON and the Cavite Philippine National Police (PNP).

160TH Day of Illegal Detention

October 6, 2006 at 6:05 am | In Campaigns | Leave a Comment

We, the Tagaytay 5, denounce in very strong terms, the new round of strong negligence and utter disregard of detainees basic rights and welfare after the wide destruction in CALABARZON in the aftermath of “Milenyo”.

Eight days after “Milenyo” left, the entire Camp Vicente Lim (Headquarters of PNP PRO-4A CALABARZON and 4B MIMAROPA) and its environs is still under darkness and no regular supply of water. Classes in this area are still suspended; normal office businesses in PRO-4 are in disarray. Even policemen on duty always complain on the unusually very long power and water supply interruption.
